Coffee Break--Fall 2008 Bible Study List

“BASIC CHRISTIANITY” -(1-hour per week)
Co-Leaders:  Charlotte Bubar and Teri Farone
Author:  John R. W. Stott
FiftySix Room upstairs in the gym
Semester Study

Who on earth is Jesus Christ?  “If He is not who He said He was, and if He did not do what He said He had come to do, the whole superstructure of Christianity crumbles in ruins to the ground.”  What on earth did He do?  What made Him do it?  What good did it all do?  Examine with John R. W. Stott, rector emeritus of All Souls Church, London, and the historical facts on which Christianity stands and discover what Jesus Christ can mean to you.  In this short paperback book, originally published in 1958, Stott sets forth eleven lessons covered the “milk” of the Word in which he argues convincingly from the scriptures that we need a savior, and that savior is Jesus Christ.

If you have questions like these, or if you have friends who wonder about the validity of Christianity, then this is the class for you. We will be working with a Study Guide, but this is a persuasive little book.

Sometimes my world feels upside down.  At times we try to please people or ourselves instead of God.  We will be studying how to get these things right side up with God.  Topics include:

It’s All about Him; Created in His Image; Purchased by Him; Talking with Him; Trusting Him or Anxiety; Contentment with Him or Depression; Humility before Him; Waiting on Him.

These topics have emerged from almost 30-years of practice in the field of psychology.  They have appeared as sources of most of the confusion and pain in regard to who He is and who we are.
