A word about Winning
Is your marriage a contest? Who’s winning?
Floors vacuumed – check; Laundry done (including the clothes worn on my last trip) –check; Dishes clean and put away – check; Furniture dusted – don’t push it! Charlotte and I shared a goodbye kiss on February 1st at 11:15 am. I traveled to Albania. She journeyed to Thailand. I got my first post-trip kiss as Dale Waller dropped her and part of the team off at the church at 4:05 p.m. on the 23rd. We’d been separated 22 days, 3 hours and 50 minutes; way too long.
Now, my wife loves a clean house. I love pleasing my wife, even if I don’t love cleaning the house. But, was my effort all a part of some marriage game? Hardly! The pointedly humorous Kevin Leman writes in his new book, Have a New Husband by Friday, “Marriage isn’t about who wins the game. It is about running the race together.” That’s all I was trying to do. I was just trying to run along with her! When that happens, God wins!
In I Peter 3, the ancient author, with God-given-words, describes how to win husbands and how to win with God, all in the context of marriage. And that’s why I’ll be speaking this weekend on, “Be Winning... Where it Counts.” This message is for more than just the married. And that’s why I hope that you, your family, and friends will be with us at 8:45 or 10:30 for an on-time beginning of our mutual worship of our great God and Savior and the study of His Word!
Also…
- Last week we heard about Serve Day-May 15th. This week, as we look to see how God would have us be more missional in our community, we’ll hear about the next really neat Brighten-A-Corner opportunity.
- Remember that tomorrow evening at 7:00, a great Southern Gospel concert will be offered in the worship center by the Blackwood Brothers Quartet. We’ll be giving them an offering to help with their expenses.
- Saturday evening – come for a shared meal, some really kid-friendly music, and our own Middle school Director, Nate Sellstrom as he shares a brief message at our Family Worship Service. The “pot-luck begins at 5:30 and the service about 7 p.m.
From time to time - check out what is happening by going to www.gracevine.com, our church's WEB page. You'll find everything from downloadable sermons to the most recent schedule of events.
And I’ll see you in the pews!
