A Word about Upset...
As is the case on most flights these days, if you are not privileged to board with Zone 2 (the first of the “commoners” boarding group), finding a place for your crammed-full carry-on, is like finding a parking spot on Higuera Street in San Luis Obispo at noon time. For the man sitting in the row behind Charlotte and me, last week, his carry-on got parked about two blocks from where he was sitting. So when the flight’s steward said, “Put your seat in the upright position,” etc, and “keep your seatbelts fastened until the plane comes to a complete stop at the gate and the captain has turned off the seatbelt sign,” this fellow wanted to see if he could get our flight-attendant to bring his carry-on forward to him before the plane landed. I mean he really wanted it done! We listened with amazement to the logical explanation as to why that wasn’t going to happen; details which I won’t go into at this time. But trust me, it made sense. And besides, what was the rush?... our flight was actually 40 minutes early!
Well, you would have thought the agitated traveler in 12A had been told he was going to be locked on the plane for the next 16 hours. He was ticked. But it was when the flight attendant properly took his own seat that we knew how upset “Mr.12A” really was. He leaned over to the acquaintance, a woman, sitting next to him, and fired-off of the attendant, “Man, he’s a /@%#$!” I mean, 12A was all torn up over having to wait five minutes to get his bag.
So honestly, what tears you up? What causes you to give a piece of your mind that you can’t afford to lose? And what do you do when you are royally upset?
The Apostle, Peter, gives us some clues to help us answer this question as we probe our next section of I Peter 4 (12-19) in a message we’ll call, “Bear Down.” I do hope you will be with us at 8:45 or 10:30 for an “on-time” beginning to our worship celebration this Sunday. Because if you are not… I’ll be the one “torn up!”
A few other highlights…
- Join Grace – a class to help people interested in possibly teaming up with us at Grace Bible Church will be offered on Sunday evening, March 28th, from 5:00 – 8:00. A great little meal is included. And if you need childcare, we’ve got that covered too. Let us know, and come find out more about what this fellowship is all about.
- The Easter Weekend (April 2-4) includes:
- A community Good Friday service at 1:00 here. This will be when we will celebrate communion in the month of April.
- A family pre-Easter experience Saturday beginning at 5:30. You’ll need the details, which you will find at Family Worship Night.
- Three Resurrection-Morning services at 8:00, 9:30 and 11:00. We are calling this evangelistic message “Down the Road – Responses to a Resurrection.” It will be a great morning. Isn’t there someone that should be coming with you?
