Decisiveness

Oct 13, 2010

An astonishing statement is found in II Kings 17:41 “Even while these people were worshipping the Lord, they were serving their idols…” How can this be? Jesus said, “you cannot serve God and mammon. You cannot serve two masters.” Matt. 6:24. We have a clear choice, and our response is to decide. To shift back and forth between two options in spiritual matters is dangerous. If the Lord be God, then follow Him.

Joshua had it right when he said, “As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Josh, 24:15.

Paul tells us we are not our own, ”You were bought with a price, Therefore honor God.” (I Cor. 6:20.

In Greek mythology lived a king named Ulysses, who with his men sailed past the island of the sirens, who had the power to charm all who listened to their singing and thus lure them to their destruction. Ulysses wanted to hear the song without endangering himself or his crew, so he filled the ears of the crew with wax and had them bind him to the mast and they safely passed that fatal place. Another part of Greek mythology tells of Orpheus who went with the Argonauts to search for the Golden Fleece. When they sailed past the siren’s island, Orpheus played better music than the sirens; he enchanted the crew with a superior melody and they passed by safely.

God does not keep you from hearing about other gods. He will not bind you by force, but He does make better music. And He asks you to choose for yourself. Be decisive!

Now is the time for us to make u p our minds about Missions. The need stares us in the face. What are we going to do? Enlarge your vision. Lift high the standards. Determine to respond as best as we can. If the church has been somewhat undecided-this can change. We can step up our goals-we can pray to the Lord of the harvest. We can go in to all the world. We can be His obedient servants. Let’s be increasingly decisive about it!!
