Brighten A Corner Coming up in March!

Feb 23, 2010

BAC_Marchproject_pic2Brighten A Corner Ministry helps people who face extraordinary or overwhelming circumstances in practical and tangible ways. Created in 2002, BAC has completed dozens of projects, serving many people, and worked with hundreds of volunteers.

On March 24-29, Brighten A Corner will be serving a local family in Nipomo. 307 Mercury , inbetween La Loma Drive and Division. The shifts will run from 9am -1pm, 1pm - 5pm and 5pm to 9pm. You can work just one or stay all day with us - whatever works best for you!

Liz works with battered women in the county and Manuel used to be a landscape contractor. Four years ago Manuel was diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) commonly known as Lou Gherig’s disease.

According to the ALS Association website: ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Motor neurons reach from the brain to the spinal cord and from the spinal cord to the muscles throughout the body. The progressive degeneration of the motor neurons in ALS eventually leads to their death. When the motor neurons die, the ability of the brain to initiate and control muscle movement is lost. With voluntary muscle action progressively affected, patients in the later stages of the disease may become totally paralyzed. In other words, they lose control of their bodies little by little until they die.

Scope of the project:

Liz works faithfully with those who are literally beaten down every day, then she comes home to love and care for her husband.

  • The mobile home in which they live in Nipomo is very clean but outdated and increasingly not meeting Manuel’s needs. It gets very cold in the winter and at night, which makes things even more difficult for Manuel. It is also not handicapped friendly, and as he moves closer to needing a wheelchair permanently, that becomes increasingly necessary.
  • We will be fixing the home to help all that, while making it incredibly beautiful at the same time. We will need help of ALL kinds as we get going! This includes remodeling the bathroom, the kitchen, removing walls, hanging drywall and installing new flooring - just to get started!

We currently have 10% of the financial resources we estimate we’ll need, so if you can donate or can help in any way, we’d LOVE it. Every donation helps us to finish the tasks. All donations are 100% tax deductible.

So...there we are, getting back to work for the Lord!! Mark your calendars and be praying about how God wants you to partner with us!

What do we need? Cash donations and volunteers!

Also, if you love to shop, we are registered at Target.com for various household items we need for the project. You can drop off your items at the project anytime.
